If this video does not work, follow this link to the original video source.

  1. Go to cmap.ihmc.us
  2. Click on the link where it says, "Downloaded." It will take you to a page asking for your information.
  3. Fill out all the required fields. This service is free, so don't worry about payment.
  4. After filling out all required fields and clicking Submit, you will see an option to donate money to the organization so they can continue developing these tools. This is purely optional and you are not required to pay anything to use their product. You will also see different download options based on your computer. Select the appropriate file based on your operating system.
  5. It will download the CMAP tool onto your computer.
  6. Double click the downloaded file and the installation will begin. Let it run through the process. It will ask you a few questions, but you are fine going with the default.
  7. Save the icon on your desktop or somewhere that will be convenient for you.
  8. To get started go to folder and click on "New CMAP"
  9. To create a new bubble, simply double click anywhere on the space. To create a connecting bubble, click on the arrow icon just above the existing bubble. A new bubble will appear as well as a field to enter how they connect.
  10. If you want to add an image to the bubble, you must first add it to your library. Simply drag and drop the image you want into your "View" folder. Then it will appear when you search for clip art.
  11. To search for clip art, click the magnifying glass icon on the top right corner of the screen. Search for the picture you want based on what you labelled it in the folder where you saved it. From there, drag and drop the picture either into the arena or into a bubble.
  12. It's important that you always record your project every time you make changes. This will not record any sound nor will it record everything you do on your screen. It will only record the changes you make to your project.
  13. To record, go to the tools tab at the top left of the page. Click on "CMAP Recorder" and it will open a column on the right side of the screen.
  14. To begin recording, click "Start Recording." It will record all the changes you make to your map.
  15. The styles box will allow you to change the font color, size, add an image to a bubble, among many other features. Play around with this tool, try changing shapes, adding shadow, etc.
  16. You will find your saved concept map under an automatically created folder in your documents called "My Cmaps."
  17. Select your file from here and upload it onto I-Learn.

Additional tutorial on how to download, install, and configure CMAP Tools and how to create your first concept map.

This program will be used to complete your Checkpoint: Concept Map updates every week. You will create your initial concept map for the Checkpoint 1 assignment, and every checkpoint afterward will be the same concept map added upon with whatever new insights you have gained. Be sure to make significant changes to receive credit. As you make changes to your concept map, be sure to attribute each addition to whichever reading, classmate, or source you got it from. There will be a Mastery Performance assignment asking for a concept map. You will use the same program to complete this assignment, but you will not use the same concept map that you are updating for your checkpoint assignment.
