CIT 353 Operating Systems II Syllabus
This is a junior-level operating system course designed to provide the skills and knowledge necessary to work in the systems administration field. The course provides students with the knowledge to become industry certified as a Windows Professional.
This course will utilize LabSim. Course work will include demonstrations, exams, lab/simulations, text lessons, fact sheets and videos.
Course Outcomes
- Students will be able to install and configure servers.
- Students will be able configure server roles and features.
- Students will be able to configure Hyper-V.
- Students will be able to deploy and configure core network services.
- Students will be able to install and administer Active Directory.
- Students will be able to create and manage Group Policy.
Certifications
This class is designed so that you can achieve certification on Windows Server 2016. The final for this class will be the TestOut Server Pro 2016: Install and Storage Certification Exam and this exam is covered in the cost of the required TestOut courseware. This class will also prepare you for the Microsoft 70-740 Certification Exam. This certification is not included in the cost of the class—students who decide to try for this certification will be responsible for its cost.
Learning Model
The challenge before us is to create even more powerful and effective learning experiences in which students learn by faith. This requires, but is more than, teaching by the Spirit. Class Paterns
Groups
You will start working together in groups in Week 3 and will do so each week through Week 13. Here are some details about working in groups:
- Groups will normally be 5-7 students.
- You will sign up for groups based on your desired time for meeting.
- The groups will meet via the BYUI video conferencing solution, Zoom ( https://byui.zoom.us/).
- Each week each student in the group should bring at least one question from that week’s material to discuss or an item from the questions or simulations to work through.
- The facilitator for the week will need to submit a link of a recording of the Zoom meeting and a list of the attendees for that week.
Weekly Pattern
Most weeks you will be doing the following:
- Reading and watching instructions materials
- Taking practice questions
- Doing lab simulations
- Doing group study sessions
Some weeks you will also have an exam.

This class uses TestOut Server Pro 2016: Install and Storage courseware (ISBN: 978-1-935080-65-7). Here are some details about this:
- All instruction, simulations and evaluations are through TestOut. Therefore, it is impossible to opt out of using this courseware and complete this class.
- You will be charged for this automatically on your BYUI Bookstore account if you are enrolled past the drop date.

Software and Computer Ethics
