NURS 316 SYLLABUS


COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Professional Seminar is a RN to BSN transition course that is designed to assist students to understand what it means to be a  professional nurse; to appreciate the history of nursing; to understand and prize nursing values, ethics, and standards; to recognize and deal effectively with the economic factors that influence how the profession is practiced; and to appreciate the need to be lifelong learners.

PREREQUISITES

Completion of RN licensure or by special permission per online BYU-I BSN policy

CREDITS

Two semester credits: 2 hours theory/week. Total theory hours are calculated on a ratio of 1 theory-hour:1 credit-hour.

LEARNING MODEL ARCHITECTURE

The Learning Model is a defining aspect of the BYU-Idaho experience that provides a pattern for continual learning and personal development long after graduation. The Brigham Young University-Idaho Learning Model is utilized in this course. Each lesson will have information for you to 1) prepare, 2) teach one another, and 3) ponder and prove.

Course Outcome 1: Generate personal stewardship outcomes through application what it means to be a professional BSN Nurse including professional writing in correct APA format, identifying the variety of nursing roles and opportunities in nursing. (UO 2,

Identify the client’s perception of his/her illness based on their cultural, spiritual and /or societal diversity as the nurse implements the nursing process and theoretical supports (nursing theorists) that guide nursing practice. GRADING CRITERIA

Department of Nursing Grading Schedule

A final grade of 75% or greater must be maintained to receive credit for the course. The department of nursing has adopted the grading scale below that is used for BYU-Idaho Nursing courses. See the BYU-I Nursing Student Handbook in the Course Folder.

A 93% Above C 76%-77%
A- 90%-92% C- 74%-75%
B+ 87%-89% D+ 70%-73%
B 84%-86% D 65%-69%
B- 80%-83% D- 60%-64%
C+ 78%-79% F 59% and below

Late Assignments

All work must be completed by end of the semester as designated in the timeline set by the instructor. There is a 5% per day grade reduction if late on an assignment if that assignment is one with a due date. There are no late submissions allowed on quizzes and discussion boards.
