Overview

In this course, students will be introduced to the concepts of construction planning and scheduling.

  • Microsoft Excel
    • Watch What is Office 365? to learn the difference between the options and select the best option for your situation.
    • If you choose the download option, follow the instructions on downloading Microsoft Office for free.
    • If you choose to use Office 365, access it by logging into your my.byui.edu portal, selecting Email, and then selecting Excel from the waffle icon on the far left of the screen.
  • Microsoft Project
    • Follow the instructions in the article, How Do I Get Started with Microsoft Project?, to gain access to Microsoft Project on your computer.
    • Be mindful that you will need a good internet connection and certain system requirements (as outlined in the syllabus) to run Microsoft Project.

Memory

  • Windows OS: 4 GB RAM; 2 GB RAM (32-bit)
  • macOS: 4 GB RAM

Hard disk

  • Windows OS: 4 GB of available disk space
  • macOS: 10 GB of available disk space; HFS+ hard disk format (also known as macOS Extended) or APFS Updates may require additional storage over time.

Display

  • Windows OS: 1280 x 768 screen resolution (32-bit requires hardware acceleration for 4K and higher)
  • macOS: 1280 x 800 screen resolution

Graphics

  • Windows OS: Graphics hardware acceleration requires DirectX 9 or later, with WDDM 2.0 or higher for Windows 10 (or WDDM 1.3 or higher for Windows 10 Fall Creators Update). Skype for Business requires DirectX 9 or later, 128 MB graphics memory, and 32-bits-per-pixel-capable format.
  • macOS: No graphics requirements.

Operating system

  • Windows OS: Windows 10 SAC, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2019 or Windows Server 2016. Please note Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise will be supported on Windows Server 2019 or Windows Server 2016 through October 2025.
  • macOS: One of the three most recent versions of macOS. When a new version of macOS is released, the macOS requirement becomes one of the then-current three most recent versions: the new version of macOS and the previous two versions.

Structure

  3. Control resources for construction activities and projects.
  4. Communicate schedules and resource allocations to project leaders.
  5. Master software tools to plan and manage construction activities.

Learning Model

You are encouraged to learn by study and also by faith (D&C 88:118). The three processes of the Learning Model will help you deepen your learning experience.

In this course, the Prepare phase of the Learning Model is delivered through the study material (textbook and other reading materials). The Teach One Another phase is facilitated through group work. The Ponder and Prove phase is measured through the weekly project assignments.

The Five Principles of the learning model is where you, the student, can take personal responsibility and invite the spirit to be part of your study strategies and learning process.

Expectations

Feedback

You can expect to receive grades and feedback within seven days of the due date for all assignments.

Workload

The BYU-Idaho standard for the student workload in courses is about 3–4 hours per week per credit hour (for example, this 3-credit course would require approximately 9–12 hours of work per week). Do not try to do a week's worth of assignments in one day. Set time aside in your daily schedule to work on the course.

Group Work

Small group work is expected each week to help teach one another. In Week 02, you will form your own groups.
