Course Syllabus

Description

This course will introduce students to internal combustion engines and the systems that support them. Students will learn to perform mechanical engine condition tests. They will also learn how to evaluate, diagnose, and repair issues with the fuel, ignition, cooling, and lubrication systems.

Learning Model Architecture

Students will participate in regular patterns of (1) understanding how the system works and then (2) determining how to test and diagnose that system throughout each lesson.

Prepare

Students will prepare by going through learning modules that will include text, videos, and animations.

Teach One Another

Students will teach one another by participating in an interactive discussion board to discuss diagnostic scenarios with one another.

Ponder/Prove

Students will ponder the moral dimensions of their roles as service providers.

Students will prove their learning by completing traditional and scenario-based assessments.

Grading Policies

Students’ course grade will be based on the assignments listed below.

Late Work Policy

All assignments have a due date in this course. The policy for late work availability and penalties is as follows:

  • Any assignment not submitted by the due date will receive an automatic 0.
  • Most assignments allow you to submit up to 7 days late, with a penalty automatically assessed for every day late.
  • Some assignments do not allow late submission and will receive a 0 if not submitted by the due date. These include:
    • Individual Case Studies (must be completed prior to weekly group meetings)
    • Group Case Studies (must be completed together during the group meeting)
    • Group Meeting Reports (must be completed the week of the group meeting)
