Description

This course uses the TestOut Routing and Switching Pro courseware to prepare students to use Cisco routing and switching devices as an IT professional and gain the knowledge necessary to pass network industry certifications, specifically the TestOut Routing and Switching Pro Certification and Cisco CCNA Certification Exams.  While these certification exams are not required by the course, they are beneficial to have on your résumé. 

Some of the topics covered in the course are:  IP routing implementation, routing protocol configuration, access control list configuration, router configuration, Cisco IOS Software management, routing protocol configuration, wireless configuration, wide area network (WAN) implementation, switch setup and configuration, VLAN configuration, spanning tree configuration,  interVLAN routing, and network management.  

Course Outcomes

1. Understand, configure, verify, and troubleshoot Routing Technologies (OSPF, EIGRP over IPv4 and IPv6)
2. Understand, configure, verify, and troubleshoot Wireless Networks  (Wireless concepts, standards, configuration, design, security, troubleshooting)
3. Understand, configure, verify, and troubleshoot WAN Technologies (Wan Types, Leased Line WAN Links, Network Address Translation)
4. Understand, configure, verify, and troubleshoot LAN Switching Technologies (VLANs, Trunking, Spanning Tree, InterVLAN routing, EtherChannel)
5. Understand, configure, verify, and troubleshoot Access Control Lists (Standard and Extended ACLs, IPv6 ACLs)
6. Understand, configure, verify, and troubleshoot Network Management Technologies (NTP, QoS, Cloud Resources, VPN, Default Gateway Redundancy)
7. Understand and document Network Design concepts in a Network Design Paper

Learning Model Architecture

This course follows a weekly cycle of Prepare, Teach One Another, and Ponder and Prove activities.

Prepare

You will prepare by setting goals and scheduling your time wisely. This will help you to complete assignments, stay on task, and perform valuable work in the future. You will have little predefined structure and will be responsible for thinking ahead and establishing your own productive schedule.

Teach One Another

You will have the opportunity to work with other students during exploration activities and student study groups.

Ponder and Prove

You will demonstrate your work each week by completing exploration activities, quizzes, and exams.

Prerequisites

CYBER 240 Networking

Required Materials

You will be using the TestOut Routing and Switching Pro courseware in this class.  If you recently completed the CYBER 240, you will already be familiar with TestOut Routing and Switching Pro, as that class uses the same course material.  In this class, we will be covering Chapters 7 -  13 of the TestOut Routing and Switching Pro material.

The required TestOut Routing and Switching Pro courseware is low cost Auto Access software.   You will access the software using the link provided in the modules of this course.  

You will be automatically charged, in your student account, for the software on the first day of the semester. If you completed the CYBER 240 class less than 6 months ago, your subscription from that class should still work and you will not be charged again.

If you do not want to use the software you cannot complete the course. If you drop the course, you will be refunded within 24 hours. The last day to receive a refund for Auto Access software is the W-drop date which occurs in week 4 of the semester. Assignments

Exploration Activities

Assigned topics are given for each activity. Students must explain what they have learned by conducting independent research, synthesizing ideas from several sources, and posting their thoughts in their own words.

Quiz

The quizzes are closed book. Do not use any notes, textbook, the Internet, or any other outside resource. This is on your honor. These usually cover the chapters covered that week but do assume an understanding of previous materials. Quizzes are timed and can only be taken once.

Final

The exams are closed book. Do not use any notes, textbook, the Internet, or any other outside resource. This is on your honor. These are comprehensive tests that cover everything studied up to that point. Exams are timed and can only be taken once.

Assignments are due on the specified due dates. No late work will be accepted. All assignments must be submitted electronically using the I-Learn website in the method explained with each assignment.
