Course Syllabus

Overview

This course incorporates organizational effectiveness at three levels: individual, group, and organizations. Students will examine these areas: motivation, team, group behavior, organizational design, structure, culture, communication, leadership, decision-making, and managing change.

The overarching objective of this course is to help prepare each of us as disciple-leaders to fulfill better the mission of BYU-Idaho: “… to develop disciples of Jesus Christ who are leaders in their homes, the Church, and their communities.” As disciple leaders, we have the daunting, yet noble mission, of trying to become more like Him and to lead as He did.

Workload

Please remember that you will need to devote 3–4 hours for every course credit or 9–12 hours weekly. It is your responsibility as a student to log into the class regularly, read assigned materials, and come to class discussion boards and team meetings prepared to participate in a meaningful way.

This course does require proficient writing skills for several major assignments like case study write-ups. If you need help with writing, reach out to the Writing Center.

Students may miss one assignment (activity assignment, paper assignment, report assignment or discussion board; not a case write-up, discipleship project, or leadership service project assignment) during the semester without receiving a 0 score on it. If students want to use this tender mercy at some point during the semester, it is the student's responsibility to contact the instructor and ask them to excuse a particular assignment. Be sure to provide the instructor with the lesson number and the name of the assignment the student would like excused.
