Learning Model Architecture

All courses at BYU-Idaho, including online courses, follow a pattern of learning that enables students to take more responsibility for their learning and to help teach one another. This pattern is called the Learning Model.  Here is a webpage to help you better understand the Learning Model: Learning Model website.

Prerequisites

Student must complete ONE of the following course:

  • CONST 298
  • PW 100T

Required Materials

  1. Textbook. B. Jackson (2010). Construction Management JumpStart, 2nd Edition, Wiley Publishing, Inc., Indianapolis, ISBN 978-0-470-60999-6. PDF pages of this textbook are accessible through the course. There is no cost associated with the textbook. You may note that the version of the book required for this class is not the most recent version. It was decided to use an older version of the book because you can obtain the older version for free and because not much changed in the newer version.
    1. The course materials are available in the Course Materials List.
  2. Microsoft Software. Several assignments must be completed using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  3. Bluebeam. Several assignments will be completed in Bluebeam (BB). You have several options for gaining access to BB.
    • Preferred option: You can obtain a semester-long student license for free. Download Bluebeam eXtreme's 30-day free trial and then let your instructor know you need a license key. You will receive an email with the key. It is valid for the whole semester. One thing to consider is that Bluebeam is required in the Specs and Plans class, in Capstone, and Construction Law.
    • As a student, Bluebeam eXtreme can be purchased through the Bluebeam website for $99.
    • If you have an iPad, you may download the Bluebeam app for around $10. Check the app store for the latest prices. The app is only available for iPads.
    • If you are an on-campus student, you may use the University labs to access Bluebeam.

Compare prices for your textbooks through the University Store Price Comparison site. They will show you all of the options from the University Store plus several online options to help you find the best price.

Proctored Exams and Assessments

This course will use an online proctoring software called Proctorio. This makes it possible for students to take assessments and exams without a human proctor present. Proctored exams can be accessed like any other exam, once the software has been installed. Exams will be recorded by Proctorio and reviewed by the BYUI Testing Center. Any questionable exams will be forwarded to the instructor for further review.

For step-by-step instructions on Proctorio installation, please refer to this help guide article (Links to an external site.).
