Weekly Patterns

While the amount of time you spend on this course shouldn't vary too much from week to week, the assignments themselves will. It's important that students be proactive in looking to see what's coming up from week to week and carefully read all of their instructor's announcements.

Unit 1 Quality and Safety (Weeks 01-06): These weeks mostly revolve around your IHI certification with various other assignments mixed in.

NOTE: You must successfully complete all 13 certifications in order to achieve your Basic Certificate in Quality and Safety. Your instructor will not award you a final grade of C- or better in this course unless this certificate has been achieved. This unit include two exams.

Unit 2 Volume Growth (Week 07-10): This unit has two important case studies that you work on with a group. It also includes one exam.

Unit 3 Finance (Weeks 11-14): These weeks are largely based on viewing instructor presentations and answering questions. The final exam takes place in Week 14.

Learning Model

Prepare: Students frequently study course materials in order to complete IHI certifications, complete case studies, or answer questions for quizzes or exams.

Teach One Another: The main Teach One Another activities take place in Unit 2 when students do the case studies. Students get to help and teach others in their groups and then teach those outside of their groups as they give their presentation.

Ponder and Prove: Students prove their understanding through the IHI certification, case studies, and the exam.

Expectations

Workload

This may vary some from week to week but students should be working roughly nine hours a week.

Group Work

Students have two major group assignments that take place in Weeks 07 and 09. In these instances, students meet throughout the week to complete an extensive case study response.

Late Work

Late work is not accepted unless students have emergency circumstances (personal/family illness, natural disaster, etc.).
