Outcomes

  1. Understand different authorities, across disciplines, and use them to recognize credibility and identity target audiences.
  2. Understand the characteristics and delivery methods of a wide range of information products to determine the motive for their creation. 
  3. Understand the rules of proper citation and intellectual property.
  4. Develop an understanding of sources, within a field, to pursue greater knowledge and articulate issues.
  5. Cultivate different research strategies to efficiently utilize various research tools.
  6. Develop sound thinking by identifying relevant topics, critically analyzing multiple sources from various viewpoints, and determining the amount of research needed to form conclusions.

Description

The purpose of this course is to help you become proficient in using library resources to conduct research. The skills learned in this course will assist you in your academic career; however, being a skillful researcher will help you in your post-university life as well. Most professions require that you are able to find and use information in some way. The skills learned in this class will help you better understand how to find, evaluate, and use information using a variety of resources and strategies.

Learning Model Architecture

Students will have regular, weekly opportunities to teach one another and to ponder and prove what they have learned.

Proctored Quizzes

This course will use an online proctoring software called Proctorio. This makes it possible for students to take assessments without a human proctor present. Proctored quizzes can be accessed like any other quiz, once the software has been installed. Proctored quizzes will be recorded by Proctorio and reviewed by the BYUI Testing Center. Any questionable quizzes will be forwarded to the instructor for further review.
