Course Description

Students will be taught computer-aided drafting and design using AutoCAD software. Topics will include coordinate systems, display control, basic geometric construction and editing, scales, layer, annotation and dimensions, blocks, attributes, plotting. Students will understand the applications of mechanical, civil, electrical, and architectural disciplines.

Course Outcomes

  1. Students will understand the fundamentals of engineering graphics including orthographic projection, true size and shape, and drafting.
  2. Students will become proficient using AutoCAD for creating, manipulating, and publishing 2D drawings.
  3. Students will gain experience in producing practical 2D drawing sets for architectural, civil, and mechanical applications.

Required Materials

  • All instructional content is provided in the course at no additional cost to students.
  • AutoCAD software, which is free software for students. Download and installation instructions are in the course.

Computer

  • Ensure you have the proper hardware and software setup to run AutoCAD. Please review the AutoCAD system requirements and obtain the proper hardware and software necessary to run it.
    • If your computer is not capable of running the software, you must gain access to a computer in your community that is capable and allows you to install and run AutoCAD.
    • NOTE: The Mac AutoCAD is different than the version demonstrated in the course videos. You can still do everything with the Mac version but the interface and commands are different. Alternatively, you may partition your drive or install Parallels Desktop with Microsoft Windows. See University Store Students Software.
  • Please read the Computer Standards for I-Learn which contains information about anti-virus applications and internet speed.

Due Dates 

Assignments are due twice each week. Please review your calendar for specific due dates and times.

Late Penalty

The late penalty for each assignment is 5% per day up to a 50% maximum deduction.
