Academic Honesty

The Department of Nursing fully supports the University policy on Academic Honesty (see catalog: Academic Probation, Dismissal). Cheating, dishonesty, plagiarism or misrepresenting a situation in any way will constitute a violation that will result in dismissal from the nursing program. A student dismissed from the program due to a violation of this or one of the overriding areas of concern is not permitted to reapply to the nursing program.

Identification on All Assignments

The expectation for the Department of Nursing is that all assignments are to be submitted online and clearly identified with a title page. In addition, you need to place the following paragraph on the final page of specified assignments submitted to the BYU-Idaho nursing program. An electronic signature and date must accompany the paragraph.

This paper is submitted as a true and accurate representation of my original work, research and writing. No part of this document is quoted, paraphrased, or the work of another individual unless cited and referenced correctly per the APA Publication Manual 6th Edition. I understand that any variance in citation or referencing can be considered academic misconduct, and subject to BYU-Idaho’s Academic Honesty policy.  [Double-space this paragraph in all Assignments in the Assignments tab]
Electronic Signature: ___________________________  Date: ________________

Overriding Areas of Concern

Overriding areas of concern for the Department of Nursing include:

  1. Demonstrating the BYU-Idaho honor code in all behaviors
  2. Providing safety for self and others consistently

Late Assignments

Assignments will be accepted late with 5% taken off the grade for each day the assignment is late (Sunday and national holidays are exempt from this penalty.) There is no allowance for extra credit work in this course.

Discussion Boards and Quizzes may not be made-up or submitted late. A student earns a "zero" for the assignment. There are no exceptions to this.

Required Format for Submitting Assignments

NURS 338 Assignments must be submitted only as Microsoft Word documents or Microsoft Powerpoints. Acceptable documents formats are .docx, .doc, or .rtf. Each assignment must be attached to I-Learn. Do not "copy & paste" nor type your paper into the "comments" section of the I-Learn assignment. When the assignment requires multiple documents to be submitted, I-Learn will accept multiple documents. They must all be submitted at the same time. You cannot re-enter I-Learn to "add" another document.

Microsoft Office is free to BYUI students, download and install Microsoft Office. Troubleshoot technical issues with the BYUI Help Desk.

Mandatory Assignments

Students must submit written assignments (whether they receive points or not) in order to receive the grade earned in the course. A student will receive a failing grade if all assignments have not been submitted.

Discussion Boards

The Discussion Board (DB) is intended to be scholarly discussion of various issues and topics of concern for nurses. Students read a peer's posting and then make insightful comments and ask probing questions. This is a forum where students explore and discover new ideas and truth together. Discussion Boards are graded writing exercises, they are not chat rooms. In your posts you will apply course reference materials to your past or present clinical experience, so including references is expected and part of the discussion. Please review NURS 338 Discussion Board Presentation to help you write excellent discussion board posts. If the video doesn't show up, try removing the "s" from the "http" in the url.

Annotated Bibliographies

Some units require reading and understanding of journal articles. You will provide an "Annotated Bibliography" of these articles. This is accomplished by first reading the article and then summarizing it in a one paragraph paper. This is to be provided in APA format. Begin your annotated bibliography with the reference of the article, followed by your summary. Examples are posted in I-Learn.
