Lead Student Responsibilities

Opening and closing prayers will be conducted by the Pathway missionaries. After the opening prayer, the lead student will facilitate discussion, help the class transition between whole class and small group activities, and keep the activities moving on time.

Before Class

  1. Read over the material for the week you will lead.
  2. Decide what to emphasize; get help on those concepts that confuse you.
  3. Think about what others might need to practice most.
  4. Determine what supplies or extra preparations are needed.

During Class

  1. Ensure any technology is working prior to the meeting.
  2. Start the meeting on time. Open and close with prayer.
  3. Keep the discussion on topic. Watch the time and move things along when necessary. Note: It might be more important to make sure everyone understands a key concept than to finish the night’s activities, but be sure the group always works on something productive and keeps focus.
  4. Ensure that each group member has the opportunity to be heard. If someone struggles, have them do as much as they can, and then work as a group to finish. Have the person repeat the correct process or ask any questions that still remain.
  5. Work to maintain a sense of trust and teamwork. Encourage questions. People are much more likely to ask for help if they feel safe and supported when they do so.
  6. Be upbeat and look for the fun in what you are learning. A positive attitude actually increases learning!
  7. Complete the Learning Report, being honest and fair in your assessment, and submit it by Saturday before midnight (local time).

Group Participant Responsibilities

Before Class

  1. Read over the materials for the week.
  2. Come to class prepared.
    • Finish all the activities in Folder A before class.
    • Bring Folder B work problems, and any other materials you will need to complete them, with you to class.

During Class

  1. Actively participate in the group discussion, and share any additional insights you might have.
  2. Help others who are struggling; this is part of fulfulling the Lord's commandment to love one another. Additionally, teaching someone else helps your mind organize the material and learn better.
  3. Support the lead student in his or her efforts, and encourage others to develop attributes of a disciple-leader.
  4. Complete the Learning Report, being honest and fair in your assessment, and submit it by Saturday before midnight (local time).

NOTE: Attendance is mandatory and, as explained in the Syllabus, will affect your overall grade along with participation through the citizenship requirement.
