AUTO 132 - Automotive Engine Performance
Outcomes
- Understand the theories and operation of internal combustion engines.
- Demonstrate engine condition diagnostic procedures.
- Use engine performance service tools and equipment.
- Demonstrate the ability to locate and use correct service procedures.
Description
This course will introduce students to internal combustion engines and the systems that support them. Students will learn to perform mechanical engine condition tests. They will also learn how to evaluate, diagnose, and repair issues with the fuel, ignition, cooling, and lubrication systems.
Learning Model Architecture
Students will participate in regular patterns of (1) understanding how the system works and then (2) determining how to test and diagnose that system throughout each lesson.
Prepare
Students will prepare by going through learning modules that will include text, videos, and animations.
Teach One Another
Students will teach one another by participating in an interactive discussion board to discuss diagnostic scenarios with one another.
Ponder/Prove
Students will ponder the moral dimensions of their roles as service providers.
Students will prove their learning by completing traditional and scenario-based assessments.

Students’ course grade will be based on the assignments listed below. Late work will not be accepted in this course; however, if a special circumstance arises, please discuss with your instructor.
