Nursing 340 Syllabus
Promoting Health and Wellness in the Aging Adult
Credits
This course is a four (4) semester credit hours (3cr. Theory/1cr. Clinical). Total credits are based on a 14 week semester.
- 3 X 3 credit theory hours = 9 hours per week X 12-14 weeks = 108-126 theory hours/semester.
- 1 X 3 credit clinical hours = 3 hours per week X 12-14 weeks = 36-42 clinical hours/semester.
Course Description
This semester course describes the role of the nurse in promoting optimum nursing care for health and wellness in the aging adult.
Pre-Requisites
Registered Nurse License with current documentation in the RN to BSN program option
Current documentation of CPR re-certification, Immunizations, Varicella titre, 10-drug screen panel, seasonal flu vaccine.

- VandenBos, G.R. (Ed.) (2010). Publication manual of the American psychological association, sixth edition. Washington DC: American Psychological Association. [The APA manual is required for all courses in the RN-BSN program].

Learning Model Architecture
The Learning Model is a defining aspect of the BYU-Idaho experience that provides a pattern for continual learning and personal development long after graduation. The Brigham Young University-Idaho Learning Model is utilized in this course. Each lesson will have information for you to 1) Prepare, 2) Teach One Another, and 3) Ponder and Prove.

- Refer to the posted schedule and calendar for the due dates for assignments.
- Assignments will be accepted late with 5% deducted for each day past the due date submitted. (Sundays are not counted.)
- All assignments to be turned in by the last day of the semester.
- Any HIPAA violations in written work will receive a zero.
Turnitin
Turnitin needs to be used prior to submitting written assignments (Wednesday, Friday and Monday). Details on how to do this will be written in assignment instructions.

The Clinical uniform for the RN-BSN program (effective fall 2015) is a White Scrub Top and Navy Blue scrub pants. NO LOGO type shirts may be worn under the White Scrub Top. A Lab coat is not required, but is optional - [for this course a Lab coat over nice clothes (no jeans can be worn) is required to be worn for Project steps and Assessment assignments. Shoes are to be Agency/BYU-Idaho Honor Code worthy (closed toe)]. If you are employed by the same agency that you use for clinical, you may not wear your work scrubs at the time you are in clinical as a RN-BSN student. The RN BYU-Idaho badge must be worn in the community when completing assignments for the course that are Project/ clinically related. The badge can be obtained at the BYU-Idaho ID office in the I-card office located in the Kimball building, room 130 for local students. For Online students contact Tara Steenson in Nursing Outreach at nursingoutreach.edu. If you already have a BYU-Idaho RN badge, you do not have to replace it with the new colored badge.
