Graphing two lines using a scatter plot with connected lines

It is sometimes helpful to graph more than one set of data on the same graph in order to compare them. Excel can help us do this.

The following tutorial explains how to graph more than one set of data in the same graph and connect the points with lines.

Instructions:

Make a table where the first column holds the values of the independent variable (usually the x-values). Put the corresponding y-values for each set of data in additional columns. Be sure to include labels for the columns.

  1. Highlight all the data as well as the table column labels that you want to plot
  2. Go to the “Insert” Tab
  3. Find the “Charts” Section
  4. Click on one of the Scatter Plot icon and select one that also connects the dots with a line.
  5. Edit ranges, axis titles, chart title, and anything else you want to adjust
