B 301 Financial Management
Outcomes
- Students will analyze financial statements and identify a company's strengths and weaknesses.
- Students will recommend solutions to real-world corporate financial problems.
- Students will demonstrate proficiency in the basic mathematics of finance: time value of money, valuation, cost of capital, capital budgeting techniques, risk / return, and cash management.
- Students will build functional spreadsheet models which incorporate the basic mathematics of finance.
- Students will solve problems as part of a group, demonstrating well-developed communication, project management, and personal interaction skills.
Description
This introductory course in financial management provides a basic foundation for other courses in finance and business management. Topics covered in this course include financial statement analysis, financial forecasting, leverage, working capital management, capital structure, capital budgeting, short and long- term financial management, sources of financing, time value of money, and cost of capital.
Assignments
Assignments will be due at the End-of-Week. This is to encourage students who maybe working to start on assignments over the weekend prior to the End-of-Week it is due. This will allow for plenty of time to comment in discussion boards, ask assignment-specific questions that may come up, and submit assignments on time. All materials, assignments, quizzes, and exams are already made available. This will allow you to work as far ahead as you would like in order to manage your studies throughout the semester and allow plenty of time to work on any given assignment. However, they will not be available for submission after the due date has passed, as late work is NOT accepted.

Students are encouraged to help each other understand the reading material and practice homework problems. Answers and solutions to practice homework problems are provided with each assignment. After seeking help by collaborating with each other and reviewing the solutions, if students still have specific questions the instructor may also assist you.

Successful completion of Pre-business core (B 275, CIT 140, Econ 111, Econ 112, Acct 201, Acct 202, and Math 221) or Business Fundamentals I and Business Fundamentals II or instructor approval.
