Archivist given national position

Max J. Evans, director of the Utah State Historical Society, was appointed as the new director of the National Historical Publications and Records Commission Jan. 7.

The commission he will oversee is a statutory body affiliated with the National Archives.

Its mission is to ensure understanding of the nation’s past by promoting the identification, preservation and dissemination of essential historical documentation.

Evans has served as director of the Utah State Historical Society and editor of the Utah Historical Quarterly.
