But the campus arts scene will be keeping things HOT this semester

Here are a few concerts and events to help you get through the short days and long nights until the ice has melted, the red rock is gone and finals are over.

Guitars Unplugged

From a single chair and a music stand setup in 1994 to a full-scale concert, Guitars Unplugged has become a traditional part of the BYU-I events calendar.

Comic Frenzy
• Kirkham Arena Theatre
• Feb. 1, 7:30 p.m.
• $2 with ID, $3 without

Comic Frenzy, BYU-Idaho’s premiere comedy troupe, returns for another semester with familiar faces and a frenetically funny approach to humor. This winter the team promises new games and gags.

Benny Kim

• Barrus Concert Hall
• Feb. 6-7, 7:30 p.m.
• $1 students, $6 general public

Benny Kim, world-famous violinist, returns to campus to play with the BYU-Idaho Symphony Orchestra.

Scots Highlanders

• Hart Auditorium
• Feb. 19, 7:30 p.m.
• $1 students, $10 general public

The Grenadier Guards and the Scots Highlanders will transform the floor of the Hart into a performance stage. An authentic British dinner will be served at 6 p.m. prior to the performance for an additional $11.

Guys and Dolls

• Snow Drama Theatre
• Feb. 20-22 & 25-28, and March 1, 7:30 p.m.
• $1 students, $6 general public

The musical comedy, Guys and Dolls, is a fast-paced, witty story is set in the early 1950s in a mythical New York City, according to Center Stage.

Jazz Festival

• Hart Auditorium
• March 8, 7:30 p.m.
• $1 students, $6 and $8 public

Cyrus Chestnut, Grammy award winning pianist, Horace-Alexander Young, popular saxophone player, and jazz vocalist Kathy Kosins will accompany Sound Alliance.

Sacred Music Project

• Barrus Concert Hall
• March 20, 6 & 8:30 p.m.
• Free with ticket

The fifth original oratorio in the Sacred Music Series: “Visions of Light and Truth” is the title of Lawrence Lyon’s commissioned work for orchestra and chorus which focuses on Joseph Smith's first vision.

Extravadance

• Hart Auditorium
• March 21, 5 & 7:30 p.m.

A collaboration of the Contemporary Dance Theatre, Ballroom Dance Team and World Folk Dancers perform a variety of pieces during Mothers’ Weekend.

Michael McLean

• Hart Auditorium

Michael McLean, popular LDS performer, composer, songwriter, producer and director, will perform durring BYU-I Mother’s Week.

Spring Talent Show

• MC West Ballroom
• March 29, 8 p.m.
• $2 with ID, $3 without

The talent of BYU-Idaho students will be put on display when their original songs, dances, compositions or skits are polished and put on stage.
You never know what you might see at an exhibit where people of different experiences come together to form one show.

April Fool’s Concert

• Snow Recital Hall
• April 1, 5 p.m.
• Free of charge

The BYU-Idaho Music Department will host the first April Fool’s Concert in its history. The concert will feature faculty members performing humorous skits and music. “This is all just for fun. [The music] will be anything but serious,” Ted Ashton of the Music Department faculty said.

Home Cooking

• Snow Drama Theatre
• April 10-12 & 15-19, 7:30 p.m.
• $1 students, $6 general public

Jack Weyland’s Home Cooking illuminates student living at BYU-Idaho. His play follows the journey of a recent convert and daughter of a rich New Yorker who tries to fit in with the students who have Mormon pioneer ancestry.
