The ice skating rink in Viking Stadium has experienced some construction delays due to unseasonably warm weather.

The temperatures have not allowed the rink to completely freeze and be able to support a large amount of weight of skaters or hockey players.

It will take about a week to smooth over the rink’s surface and remove snowfall.

The location will serve free skating lessons, open skating, hockey practice and games and possible recreational hockey play once it is complete.

A fee of $3 will be charged to students or $1.50 without a skate rental charge for use of the rink. The skate rental is located at the Outdoor Resource Center.

Upon completion, the ice rink will host open skating Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6-10 p.m., from 6:30-10 p.m. on Tuesdays and from 6-11 p.m. on Fridays.

“The ice rink is here so that students can’t say there is nothing to do here in Rexburg during the winter time,” Outdoor Recreation Manager Scott Hurst said. “We have a ton of stuff going on this semester.”
