Defensive end retires

Defensive end Phil Hansen, a North Dakota native and one of the last ties to the Buffalo Bills’ Super Bowl years, announced his retirement Monday.

“My body and my heart tell me it’s time to move on. I’ve known for a long time now that this would be my final season. I tried to keep it a secret because I didn't want it to become a distraction to any of my teammates,” Hansen said. “I always thought the focus should be on the opponent.”

After starting on top, making three straight Super Bowl appearances, Hansen ends his 11-year career a day after the Bills (3-13) lost 34-7 at Miami, capping Buffalo’s worst season since 1985.

Semi-pros meeting held

There will be a meeting for anyone interested in joining the Madison Lions semi-pro football team at the Rexburg East Stake Center Friday at 6 p.m.
