The Ringling Bros. have the greatest show on earth.

The St. Louis Rams have the greatest show on turf.

The Ricks College Vikings have the greatest show on the hardwood.

This past week, Ricks’ women’s basketball team picked up two more wins, improving their record to 13-1.

Saturday night, the Vikings beat the Colorado Northwestern Spartans 100-35.

Guard Jessica Fowler and post Annie Anderson led the Vikings’ 65-point victory. Fowler led the team in scoring with 15 points and added 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals. Anderson scored 13 points and pulled down 7 rebounds.

Guard Laura Stratton, post Erin Page and guard Sheila Hutchison also scored in double figures for the team.

Defensively, the Vikings forced 40 turnovers and held the Spartans to 27 percent shooting from the floor.

“Our goal was to hold them to 35 [points] or under,” Coach Lori Woodland said. “That was the thing they wanted to do.”

In the first half, the Vikings allowed only 15 points, beginning the game with a 20-6 run. It was the defense, however, that wiped the team build its lead.

They forced 30 steals and seemed to be in the Spartan passing lanes forcing turnovers all night.

Ricks vs Eastern Utah

Thursday night, the Vikings beat the College of Eastern Utah Golden Eagles 104-61.

Ricks put pressure on the ball all night and used 21 turnovers to power themselves to a 43-point victory.

Sheila Hutchison led the team in scoring with 15 points and chipped in with five assists and three steals.

Forward Lacey Tubbs put in a solid performance as well, leading all players with 13 rebounds. She also added nine points to the score.

Four other Vikings: Fowler, Emily Johnson, Anderson and Alain Bowman, scored in double figures.

The Viking defense was once again cutting off the passing lanes. They played solid defense, holding the Golden Eagles to 33 percent shooting from the floor.

“[Rose Hamilton] is their leading scorer. We knew before we left we could shut her down because she can’t finish with her left hand,” Woodland said. “I thought we shut her down.”

The two wins helped Ricks maintain its SWAC conference lead. Next week women’s basketball faces a tough test on the road against 9-2 North Idaho College.

The following week the Vikings play two road games in Utah against powerhouses Utah Valley State College and Salt Lake Community College.

The three road games should prove to be a challenging test.

“All three of those will be real tests for us. Now we really have to start playing ball,” Woodland said.
