Learning Model Architecture
The learning model is a defining aspect of the BYU-Idaho experience that provides a pattern for continual learning and personal development long after graduationand is utilized in this course. Each lesson will have information for you to Prepare, Teach One Another, and Ponder & Prove.
Course Structure
- You will be expected to spend an average of twelve hours a week on this course. You will learn new concepts and then apply them in both individual and group projects.
- Each week students will complete preparation activities individually. in some of the lessons there are assignments due as part of preparation. These are due at 8 AM Mountain Time on Wednesday. This due date is referred to in the course as Due Date #1.
- In Lessons 02 to 07 you are expected to attend synchronous meetings. To accommodate various schedules, there are several meetings to sign up for. If you are unable to attend a meeting, you may listen to a recording. There are assignments which must be completed in preparation for these meetings. These are due on Due Date #1. Reflection assignments are to be completed after the meetings. These are due on Due Date #3, which is 8 AM Mountain Time on Monday.
- In Lessons 08-14 Students will complete a group project. They will choose how and where to communicate.
- Ponder & Prove is completed individually, and is due Monday at 8 AM Mountain Time. This is referred to in the course as Due Date #3.
- Students will complete two large projects in the course. One of these is an individual project and the other is a group project. The individual project will be completed in lessons 01 to 09. The group project will be completed in Lessons 8-14.
- Citizenship is worth 10% of your grade. You will automatically receive this by being an active, positive participant in the class. You will lose it only by not participating with your group, not working well with others, or otherwise not displaying good "citizenship."
- The BYU-I standard grading scale will be used.
- Assignments which are turned in on time and receive a low grade can be turned in again for a higher grade. Assignments which are turned in late receive no second chances.
- Because of the nature of the class, with a heavy emphasis on group work and the concepts building on each other week by week, you are expected to turn your work in on time. Your portion of the grade for group assignments will be assigned by your group leader. Late work will adversely affect the whole team, which will also affect your grade. The grade for late Ponder & Prove assignments will be at the discretion of the instructor.
