FDREL 200 Syllabus- The Eternal Family
Course Description
Outcomes
- Deepen our understanding of eternal law, the plan of salvation, and the doctrines and principles of effective family living as identified in The Family: A Proclamation to the World.
- Increase our desire, commitment, and ability to strengthen our marriages, nurture our children, and create a healthy, supportive, and righteous home and family environment.
- Provide opportunities to learn and share provident living skills that will aid in attaining an eternal marriage and family.
Description
Each topic will be examined and applied through the following two-week cycle:
Week 1 (KNOW- prepare) Online video podcast where gospel truths about the topic will be studied through multimedia presentations of modern prophetic teachings on the family.
Week 1-2 (DO-teach one another) Discussion groups and journaling where students participate in case studies, problem-solving, and discussion in order to understand and begin to apply the prophetic readings.
Week 2 (BECOME-ponder and prove) Online workshops where students share with each other their experiences in implementing their Provident Living skills plan over each respective two week cycle. A personal plan to practice each provident living skill will be created, implemented, reported and shared during each respective two-week cycle through private journaling, including a concluding report, and sharing keys to success with class members. At the end of each unit, students will take a quiz (available Thursday through Saturday of the second week in each unit).

Discussion Boards
This course will require you to discuss readings with other students in the course multiple times a week. More detailed rubrics and instructions are included with the individual assignments. However, you should follow these steps if you are unfamiliar with posting to discussion boards:
To add a new post to a discussion board simply click on the “New Thread” button at the top of any discussion board window. A new text box will then appear at the bottom of the page where you can type your post. When you have finished composing your addition to the discussion board you can post it by clicking the “Post” button. These instructions will be the same throughout the semester for all discussion boards.
Sometimes you will be asked to attach a file to your discussion board post. To do this click the “Attach a file” button at the bottom left of the text box where you type in your post. Then click the “Browse” button that will appear and then double click the file from your computer you wish to attach. Once you have done that you can finish your addition to the discussion board like normal and the file will be attached (indicated by a paperclip icon) underneath your text.
Additionally you may need to add pictures to your discussion board posts. To do this you may attach them the same way as attaching a normal file or you may add them to the main body of the post you are typing. To add them to the body of the text click the "Start a New Thread" button and a text box will open. From there, click on the little “mountain icon” (insert image). In the window that pops up click the “Upload” button indicated by a small window with items in it. Click the image you wish to attach. Then click “Add”. The picture may just appear as a name but will appear as the picture once you finish the post and click the “Add” button.
